We love horror films and television shows, especially when it comes to monsters. There have been some horrifying werewolves in movies, as well as some that are simply terrifying. I’m not talking about those werewolves from the Twilight Saga– they were different (sorry, Twihards!).
But what we’re seeing is something more terrible and terrible, like a true monster. After the release of “Teen Wolf” in 2011, the world of werewolves began to catch up with TV shows, and as cliché as its name may seem, it was actually rather fantastic.
However, making werewolves the main characters of a film or series is still uncommon; only a few succeed while others cast them as supporting characters alongside vampires or other creatures. If you believe that werewolves deserve to be loved – check out these Netflix shows that feature werewolves in some fashion: “13 Reasons Why”, “Sense8”, “The 100.”
Castlevania (2017 – present):
One of the most excellent animated horror series is ‘Castlevania.’ It’s dark and wildly exciting, and at the same time, very comedic.
The story is set on medieval Earth and follows an ex-hunter as he takes down each evil monster in hot pursuit to take down Count Dracula. Voice actors such as Richard Armitage, Theo James, and others provide quality vocals for this beautifully animated series. If you enjoy immortals or supernatural creatures like werewolves and vampires, then ‘Castlevania’ is a must-see!
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (2018-2020):
The compelling, supernatural drama ‘Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’ follows the titular teenage witch, Sabrina Spellman. On her 16th birthday, she is faced with an ultimate decision- do I stay in the human world and balance my witchy tendencies with being a normal teen,
or join my family’s furthering their own agenda? The show also features a slew of other mythical creatures such as werewolves and vampires, which appear to be more than precocious.
Hemlock Grove (2013):
Soon, the town of Hemlock Grove is rocked by a series of strange murders. Forgoing subtlety, this show is focused on gore and horror.
It’s made for those who have the stomach to take it all in and not let it lead them to repulsion. Unfortunately, this means that only those who are willing to give the show a chance will be able to rate it fairly regardless of how much they enjoy it.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure (2012 – present):
Okay, so let’s start with the fact that this series is based on a Japanese manga and the word “Bizarre” is in its title. So going into the series, you can expect it to be eccentric, odd, and magical. What you don’t expect is how much you’ll enjoy it.
It has been dark humor/comedy for a long time known for being smart and fantastical with a nice little touch of darkness.”JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure” follows Jonathan Joestar (or JoJo) as he competes against his stepbrother who has turned into a vampire for the possession of the Joestar fortune.
Legacies (2018 – present):
After the CW’s two other supernatural series, “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” ended, the network expanded their universe with another spin-off. It’s called “Legacies.” The series follows the next generation of vampires, werewolves, hybrids and witches as they gather at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted in Mystic Falls to study the mystic arts.
Hope Mikaelson, daughter of original vampire Klaus and werewolf Hayley is at the center of this interesting story. Other characters on the show include Lizzie Saltzman’s twin children Lizzie and Josie as well as some amazing new ones.
Sirius the Jaeger (2018):
Fans of both ancient Japanese mythology and Western vampires will find a lot to enjoy in Hachuredai. Set in the Imperial Capital of 1930, this sci-fi anime centers around a human and vampire alliance who protect humans from their enemies, the Vampires.
After his village is destroyed by the monsters, they join forces with Yuliy, an outcast even among different demi-human races. Together they fight “The Arc of Sirius” and each has their own reason for killing off the Vampires that inhabit Tokyo. There’s more than meets the eye in this show, as it features compelling characters and lots of action.
The Kirlian Frequency (2019):
Like other Netflix original series, this one offers a unique sense of creepy and strange tales with only one common thread: the unsettling city of Kirlian, which is accessible only to those who have watched the series. If you like short horror stories, then you’ll love ‘The Kirlian Frequency’.
The Order (2019):
Drama, action and romance are the key components in this TV series. This show will make you roll your eyes at first, but as time goes on everything just get strat better. It gets better even when the plot develops.
The actors do a great job communicating their characters which is one of the best features of the show. You’ll only miss season one up until now, so still have plenty of time to catch up on this show before season 2 begins.
The Originals (2013 – 2018):
‘The Originals’ is a spin-off of ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ and it’s an exciting new show. This show stars a new set of characters:
the Original vampire family. It also has a talented cast, with some including Michael Trevino, Phoebe Tonkin and Joseph Morgan leading the way. Though it’s not as dark as ‘The Vampire Diaries,’ it will be one that you’ll enjoy more.
The Vampire Diaries (2009 – 2017):
The Vampire Diaries is one of the most entertaining teen dramas in television history. When it first came out, it was both a ratings and critical favorite. Throughout seasons 1 through 7,
we were able to witness a multitude of heart-wrenching storylines about love, relationships, betrayal, brotherhood and magic. The series’ central cast is filled with engaging characters ranging from young adults to elders. In the end, the show concluded with its complete circle for the characters.
